How to become a Water Witch

There are two possible route, one you will find explained under our craft, structure, and is wher you know of a coven and can approach them and learn directly from them. the other route, that will be applicable to far more people is outlined below.

Where you do not know already of a local coven

We have a multi stage arrangement that will allow you to learn, become involved and gain the most from membership. This can be undertaken at your own speed and to the depth you choose. so can be completed fairly quickly or if you chose can be undertaken over an extended period.

See what to do now below

Stage 1

Should you decide that you would like to become a part of our community, we ask that you:-

First take some time to learn more about witchcraft in general, and all the traditions. You can do this at www.school-of-witchcraft.com but you don't have to complete the course they offer before moving forward, unless you want to of course.

We want you particularly to think about what it will mean for you, not just the enjoyment and friendship, and feeling of belonging to  group that really, genuinely is interested in you and your welfare, but how the 'pick and mix' selections you have chosen will effect your life. It is a lifestyle not just an hour a month routine.

You need to think about how others will react, partners, your existing family, which incidentally we do not try in any way to replace, and of course who you are going to feel you can safely tell, as not everyone we know is ready at this time to face or be prepared to understand what witchcraft involves or your choice to become involved.

You must stop yourself from becoming a missionary for witchcraft. Once you discover it fully it is only natural that you want to stand up and be counted and convert the world, however you must allow other to find their own way when it is right for them. This does not mean you have to keep it a secret, you can tell friends you can genuinely trust and others who will not make fun of you or not respect your ability to make your own choice.

Stage 2.

Development stage:

Registration will be open again from a date to be fixed, please don't register yet. Watch this page for news. For the present time just email 'Aqua @ water-witches.com', telling him you are joining us, so we are in touch with you. There is no space before or after the @.

Now that you are better informed, you can again consider if witchcraft is right for you, and if our tradition is the one that suits you best.

If it is for you, you are welcome, you join as a solitary student witch, irrelative of your age, or previous experience.

Having joined as a solitary student witch, you start your journey of discovery, and unless you already are in touch with one of our covens, will be as a solitary, or with friends who have joined with you.  The objective is to decide how much you want to learn at this stage and gain the knowledge. A course is available on www.school-of-witchcraft.com or books that you can use are detailed on www.book-of-shadows.org, and  also contains links to many more with craft and similar sites.

The objective in this stage is to get to the stage where you understand at least the year, the role of rituals, and  some areas of the craft. You do not have to understand everything, and in fact the more you learn the more you will discover their is to learn, and none of us know and fully understand everything.

We expect you to live in today while preparing for tomorrow, so understand that you will choose your own time scale to undertake this stage.

One tip that you may find helpful, is to start out by trying as far as you can to suspend all judgment on everything that you learn. Just read, don't try to memorize or put everything into practice, you will learn and remember far more than you realize by this process. As you cover different areas you will find that like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle the odd bits start to make sense and a picture starts to appear in front of you.

How long should this stage take you may ask, that is up to you, some may decide  that lifetime is not enough others that a few months can accomplish what they need at this stage.

Stage 3

Development stage:

We have not yet re-started the matching operation, please hold back at the moment and watch this page for news.

Selecting a coven. The choices are joining an existing coven, becoming a founder member of a new coven,  being part of the Atlantic coven, or Mediterranean coven, or remaining a solitary.

Existing coven. Most, but not all, existing covens will not take members not introduced by a current member, the advantage of joining an existing coven is that their is a greater level of experience and knowledge available, the disadvantage is that you may feel that you are the junior, perhaps not be able to get so involved as you would like and the arrangements may already be firmly established.

Founder member of a new coven. The great advantage is that you all join as equals, and you can be fully involved in the way that the coven is set up and will run, fine tune its rituals and more. Its exciting, but harder work. The disadvantage are that you don't have the experienced people to fall back on, and have to gain the skills needed amongst the coven members.

Atlantic coven. This is the large coven that includes all those who do not wish to be a part of a local coven. Coven members do not usually meet, but work together over the internet using code names, and email addresses. they do not disclose their identities. Projects etc also are covered on the internet, as are sebbat routines. In effect this is a half way step between being a solitary, and being in a normal coven.

Mediterranean Coven. This operated like the Atlantic coven but is specifically for members who are under 18.

Remaining a solitary. This will appeal to those more interested in one area only or in to the study of witchcraft, rather than the practical application.

Most covens have a greater or outer coven and an inner coven. The inner coven are  the group involved in ritual, ceremonies, magic etc. When you join as a student you become a member of the outer coven, and this does not involve any major ritual, except usually a simple promise to stick to the witches law "do what you want, but harm no-one", and to keep anything that you are told is secret knowledge to yourself, and the identity of all other witches to yourself.

Many of the skills and much of the craft can be learnt in the outer coven, and most covens invite the outer coven or at least some of them to calibrations where they form an outer ring, often not within the magic circle. Some of these events may have a minimal age, or other restrictions that the inner coven feel is appropriate.

Entering the inner coven involves an initiation,  and we, like most other traditions do not publish these in full, all we can say is that their are several to choose from so you will not have to undertake anything that you do not want to. Prior to attending you would know roughly what was going to happen, but not all the detail, as this is secret up to the point of the initiation, and would also spoil the surprise. Having passed this you will be a witch, or priest or priestess.

Later.

Their are further rituals or initiations that convert a priest or priestess to a high priest or priestess, and to a king or queen. Each coven can have any number of witches, high priestesses or high priests, but only one king or queen, who is in effect the chairman of the coven.

At any point a high priest and priestess can choose to lead a new coven and once the number of witches has reached 9 they can become a king or queen.

The president of all the water witches is the high king or high queen, and he or she confers honoree titles on some others who visit covens at professors of knowledge or teach craft skills.
