Air, like water, is a carrier, it can transport something or other, often light things like dust, feathers balloons, but on occasions sand many thousands of miles, and fish on occasions have been showered on people having been picked up and transported many hundreds of miles.
Tornadoes of course can pick up houses or ships.
As water witches, we are normally looking for the wind to move water vapor for us, and rather than needing the air to deliver something precisely, we are happy to use the memory effect water has where information is spread from one water molecule to another until our message gets everywhere.
As well as air being, one of the elements the cone of power from a magic circle is in air, and cannot be separated from it.
Air like water swirls, and it is the effect of the movement of air and collision between different swirling air at different temperatures that creates weather systems. these swirls are in part caused by the rotation of the earth, and our atmosphere, being always left a little more behind, and the movement of air trying to even out pressure, so rushing from areas of high pressure into the lows. It is effected by many variables, temperature, sun, sun spots, ocean turbulence, and swirls collected together.
We can show from the mouths of rivers how swirls, or spirals in water, combine with others, and then larger still until you have giant swirls that mix up the water in the oceans, and we believe that the same is the case in air. We know that a jet several miles away and nearly invisible can cause several minutes later a rough ride for a paraglider, we know therefore that waves of disturbance runs through air.
Magic connected with air, is all about understanding variables, changes in temperature causing air movements, which in turn cause pressure differences, which causes wind and movement, which all added together can change the weather, at least temporarily.
The many old rimes and bits of knowledge will allow us to forecast the weather as a whole and parts of it, bits of magic allow us to have some effect in some situations the trick therefore is in choosing the best action in with the ideal timing.
You will know that shortly before sunset and shortly after sunrise there is a period of calm, this is the time many with hot air balloons plan to set out. This is often the best time of day for the less experienced witch to practice their air and weather skills.
Another way to use air magic is to use fragrance, either with scented candles or an oil burner.
Floating and flying without your body can be achieved with trance states similar to hypnosis, and is most enjoyable.
Within the magic circle, air is the element to the East. (South for more powerful magic) As you cannot place air specifically there, a candle is often used together with something to represent air such as a feather.
