Covens

Variation between covens.

We have no master plan, or book of common prayer, and each coven develops their own book of shadows, we encourage diversity, originality, and for you as a group within the coven to shape the way that your rituals and celebrations are performed. Some will include magic, with things occurring that you will not be able to explain, while other covens may not contain people with these particular talents, or who feel that such routines are best avoided to keep the coven on a more equal footing, where everyone can be fully involved.

Within a coven you have initially founding members, of necessity you need some with either previous knowledge and skills, or to first establish a study group so that people can collectively pick up enough to proceed. Collectively these founding members will set the initial mould for the coven, and later some will become high priests or priestesses, and the contents may change. It should of course change over time to reflect the people within it. Some will split off to form new covens, taking some of the ideas with them, but importantly developing their own book of shadows with their own celebrations.

One very important aspect of the Water Witches is that no-one has to undertake or participate in anything they do not wish to, or have a problem with, so it may be wise for one part of a coven to have extra working sessions or extra rituals for others who do not want to take part in a particular type of ritual.

The coven as a family

The principle purpose of a coven is not religious but as a form of support network, where all who belong are members of a very supportive family.

Within the coven different members develop different skills often individually but also some times in pairs or small groups. Many of what some might refer to as alternative medical cures, are not used only as emergency treatment but routinely so as to balance and improve the lives of the members of the coven to the full. Some are used for entertainment or pleasure, and on occasions as tools to discover other new skills. We very much help each other, share our abilities, and make sure that all members as fully supported getting the most out of life.

We also except each person right to chose the way they live and make their own decisions and mistakes. the coven therefore is not restrictive nor does it expect all members to make use of all the services and help it has available. Each member is still an individual, able to make up their own mind and although empowered by the group also strengthened as an individual, becoming more confident, happy and fulfilled.

Some covens may also have shared property, items that people don't need all the time that can be loaned out to members when required.

To the outside world the coven may appear to be a local club, or social group, and many groups manage to exist within communities with no one outside the coven realizing that a witchcraft coven existed amongst them.
